U.S. Trade and Developement Agency (USTDA) Emerging Markets Briefing

FREE EVENT! Please join us for a roundtable discussion with the U.S. Trade and Development Agency’s Director for Partnership and Innovation, Paul Marin. Paul will discuss how your company can benefit from USTDA’s programs in emerging markets.

USTDA is an independent agency that connects U.S. exporters to business opportunities in developing and middle-income countries. USTDA's funding allows U.S. industry experts to perform feasibility studies, launch pilot projects, or provide a diverse array of technical assistance for these projects. The Agency also connects project sponsors in developing countries with U.S. businesses through its reverse trade missions, which bring overseas decision-makers to the United States to introduce them to the best available in the design, manufacture, and operation of U.S. goods and services.

Quick Facts about USTDA:

  • USTDA generates $85 in exports of U.S.-manufactured goods and services for every $1 programmed.
  • USTDA has generated over $57 billion in U.S. exports for over 2,400 U.S. companies across all 50 states.
  • Since its inception, the Agency has supported nearly 500,000 U.S. jobs.

Paul Alvaro Marin, Director of Partnership and Innovation, USTDA

Paul Alvaro Marin is the Director for Partnership and Innovation at the USTDA, a U.S. government agency that helps U.S. businesses create jobs through the export of their goods and services for priority development projects in emerging economies. USTDA links U.S. companies to global export opportunities by providing early project preparation assistance that matches U.S. technological expertise with overseas infrastructure development needs - creating lasting business partnerships between the United States and emerging market economies. As Director for Partnership and Innovation,

Mr. Marin develops and maintains strategic relationships with U.S. industry, U.S. government agencies, the National Security Council, multilateral institutions, and non-governmental organizations.

Prior to this role, Mr. Marin served for three years at the National Security Council as the Director for International Trade, Investment, and Nuclear Energy Policy, and as the Acting Senior Director for International Trade and Investment. In these roles, he oversaw the coordination of White House priorities that support U.S. jobs through exports and inward investment.

Mr. Marin previously served as USTDA's Regional Director for sub-Saharan Africa, Assistant Director for Policy and Program, and Country Manager for Southeast Asia.

Mr. Marin holds a B.A. in International Relations and German, Phi Beta Kappa, from Bucknell University and a M.A. in International Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
